JAUSHINA NICOLE

In this interview with The Style Researcher Magazine, designer Jaushina Nicole shares how her family’s love for color sparked her passion for fashion. She reflects on the challenges of launching her brand and the purpose that drives her work. Her story is one of creativity, resilience, and meaningful design.

What first sparked your interest in your creative field?

My interest in fashion was sparked early on by my mom and grandma, who were both deeply influenced by color and design in everything around them, from their clothing to home decor. They instilled in me a deep appreciation for how colors and patterns can transform a space or a person, making a statement without words. Their creativity and sense of style, whether in the way they dressed or decorated their homes, inspired me to embrace design as a way to express individuality and creativity.

What has been the most challenging project or situation in your career, and how did you handle it?

One of the most challenging situations I faced was launching my first collection while managing multiple responsibilities as a solo entrepreneur. Balancing design, production, marketing, and sales all at once was overwhelming. I handled it by staying organized and breaking each task down into manageable steps. I also sought guidance from others in the industry, learning from their experiences, and building a network of support. It was a tough but invaluable learning experience that strengthened my ability to handle future projects with confidence.

How do you relax and unwind from the pressures of your work?

I find peace in art, whether it’s painting or sketching. Taking time for creative expression without the pressure of deadlines allows me to relax. I also enjoy traveling, which provides inspiration and balance.

How has your creative process evolved throughout your career?

My creative process has evolved significantly as I’ve grown more confident in my voice as a designer. Initially, I was more rigid but now I trust my instincts and experience more. The balance between structured design and free expression has become key to my process.

As a child, what did you aspire to become, and how does it compare to where you are now?

As a child, I always had big dreams of pursuing a career where I could make a meaningful impact. While my path has taken me into fashion, the core desire to create and bring something positive into the world has remained the same. Now, I channel that passion into designing and empowering others through my work.

Which project in your career do you feel has had the most impact, and why?

The launch of my Jaushina Nicole  Allure collection at New York Fashion Week was a milestone that marked my transition into high-fashion. It was the culmination of years of hard work and the first major platform where I could showcase my designs on a global scale. It validated my journey and opened doors for future projects.

How does your cultural background influence your personal and professional life?

My cultural background has been a significant influence on my creativity, inspiring me to infuse elements of my heritage into my designs. It’s a source of strength and perspective that drives my passion for creating art that speaks to diverse audiences and tells unique stories.

Can you describe a milestone in your career that was particularly meaningful to you?

A meaningful milestone was when I started my own fashion brand and released my first collection of handbags. It was a leap of faith, but it felt like the beginning of something bigger, an opportunity to combine my love for fashion with my entrepreneurial spirit.

Outside of work, what is a hobby or activity you enjoy that might surprise people?

I enjoy crafting and creating, it is soothing.

How have you adapted to changes in your industry over the years?

The fashion industry is constantly evolving, and I’ve learned to adapt by staying informed and open to change.

Is there a book or movie that has significantly influenced your personal or professional perspective?

The movie The Pursuit of Happyness had an impact on me. Its inspiring story about resilience, determination, and never giving up, no matter how challenging the circumstances may be.

What piece of advice would you give to someone starting out in your field?

Don’t be afraid to start and take risks. Surround yourself with a supportive network, be open to learning from both successes and failures, and most importantly, stay true to your creative vision. The journey is long, but persistence is key.

Do you have a personal philosophy or mantra that guides your life and work decisions?

My mantra is “Create with purpose and live with intention.” Every design I create has meaning, and I strive to lead with purpose in both my personal and professional life.

If resources were not a constraint, what would be your dream project?

If resources were not a constraint, my dream project would be to create a fashion initiative that empowers underserved communities through design and education. I envision establishing workshops and mentorship programs that teach design and business skills, giving individuals from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to share their unique perspectives and talents with the world.

How do you balance your personal life and needs with your professional responsibilities?

Balancing personal life and work is always a challenge, but I try to set clear boundaries.
