In this exclusive Style Researcher interview, photographer and creative visionary Meric Izgi sits down with Dilay Seçkin to reflect on the evolution of his aesthetic world and the stories that shape his work. Together, they explore the intersection of art, identity, and innovation that continues to define Izgi’s signature approach.

First of all, I’d like to listen to Meriç İzgi in his own words. Can we get to know u ?

Of course, I’m Meriç. I grew up surrounded by music and enjoy expressing my emotions through songs. I was actually a bit introverted as a child, but that’s how I most easily expressed myself. Now I want to bring that child’s dream to the stage. I love both creating and connecting with people. I enjoy having fun and being emotional. So, what u see is what I’m.

We met u through ur song ‘Toxic Aşk’. If u think back to ur childhood memories, when did u first understand the power of music ?

I was a child, so I didn’t know why, but one day my mom was crying and she put on some music. Then I saw her wiping her tears. I saw that song silence someone crying. At that moment, I understood: music isn’t just sound; it’s a language. And I wanted to learn that language. Because music’s the purest way to touch people without speaking…

With ur YouTube Channel and the success u’ve achieved on social media, u’ve become one of Turkey’s YouTube Music Phenomena. Could u tell us a little about that process ?

YouTube was a beginning for me. I didn’t expect the journey that began on a computer in my room,in a corner of a room , to reach the hearts of millions. The question in my mind, ‘Will anyone understand me ?’ turned into messages like, ‘We’re so glad u exist, we love u.’ This wasn’t a PR campaign; it’s me defining my path entirely with my soul, my image, and my taste in fashion. And the best part’s that it’s all there for everyone to see…

Do the songs u create carry traces from ur own life or from others ? In what mood do u usually write ?

I’ve a wonderful team. We work together; they’re all my closest friends. We write when we’re going through an emotion. Sometimes the songs contain our own sadness, sometimes someone else’s tears or joy. There’s truth in my songs, but sometimes those truths aren’t mine. But as long as we can feel them, they’re all our truths. We usually write our songs at night, in quiet, slightly broken, and relaxed moments.

How does it make u feel to know that u can touch someone with something u produce ?

It’s an indescribable feeling. Having someone listen to my music and say, ‘I felt that too, I experienced that too’, is perhaps the greatest reward I’d receive in life. It’s wonderful when a feeling that comes from within me speaks to another’s heart.

What kind of career plan do u’ve ? Where’re u now ?

My plan isn’t to be popular, but to mark on life. Because I’m already popular, even though I’m not trying, and I’m on my own path. I think I’m at the very beginning of my journey, but how I’m going is more important than where I’m

going. I want to keep walking without losing my heart. I always want to be a good person… I want to be useful to my peers and shed new light on the fields of fashion and music.

What’s the feature ur friends like most about u ?

My maskless nature. Anyone walking next to me knows they’re walking with a realist. In other words, I say whatever I’m thinking directly. Of course, I don’t do this with malicious intent, but because I’m who I’m. So, this’s my natural state. Sometimes I’m the cause of laughter, sometimes I make shock others in the environment I’m in, but I’m always ‘me’.

We always see u as positive and smiling. What do u owe ur energy to ?

I learned to digest all the negativity and generate hope. Smiling is sometimes a transformation. There’re many times when I look happy even when I’m not. I feel like I’d always look happy on the outside.

What’re ur fans most curious about u ?

I think they’re most curious about where I get my clothes from. And another thing; They’re very curious about my monkey. I’d a pet monkey, and the police confiscated it. My fans loved watching it. Since they haven’t seen it in a long time, they always ask where it’s…

Let’s describe love… Also is there someone special in ur life ?

Love; both the most beautiful feeling and the most fragile. It’s something that makes u feel safe, allows u to be urself, but also hurts inside. Honestly, I’ve only truly fallen in love once. And I loved that person deeply. I think love is something u only experience in its fullest form once in ur lifetime. If that first experience ends badly or disappoints u, there’s always a lingering feeling of insecurity, a fear of chaos, and a sense of doubt in ur subconscious in subsequent relationships. If u ask me if I’ve someone special in my life right now; my heart isn’t empty, but I’ll keep the details to myself :)

Do u follow fashion ? How’d u define ur style ?

 I don’t just follow fashion; I’m practically obsessed with it. I especially shop abroad. I try to find and wear pieces that aren’t readily available. I’m very particular about not wearing the same outfit as everyone else. My absolute fave brand’s ‘Supreme’. I’ve a special collection of rare pieces in my wardrobe. I place great importance on my style being unique. So, everything I wear definitely has a story to tell.

What’s ur life motto ?’

‘Don’t do anything u don’t truly feel.’ I’m a Scorpio, and cuz of my sign, I trust my intuition greatly; they’ve never let me down. This applies to my work, my friendships, and my love life. My feelings r always my captain. If my inner voice says it’s bad, it’s, and my feelings’ll always be proven right.

I want from u to tell urself something when u read this interview in the future…

That’s a great question… It’s a bit confusing. But I think I’d tell myself; No matter what, don’t forget where u started. Fame is fake. If u stay true to urself, u’ll always survive. Live with that in mind. And most importantly, well done for walking this path !
